One particular tourist sightseeing spot that you should visit while touring the city is Akshardham Mandir – the most popular temple of the city. Located close to the border separating Delhi and Noida, it is a large temple complex; the second largest Hindu temple in the world after the Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar. It is dedicated to the Hindu god Bhagwan Swaminarayan and serves as a large exhibit of the ancient Hindu and Indian culture, architecture, and spirituality. It is a major tourist site of the city and visited by almost every single traveller who visits the place for tourism. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the former President of India inaugurated the opening of the temple for people of India on 6 November 2005. Since then the temple has been attracting about 70 percentage of total tourists, who visit the city, every year. It is situated on the banks of Yamuna River and exhibits the seamless incorporation of modern techniques into centuries old Indian architecture style. An interesting fact about the temple is that no steel or concrete was used in its construction, and it is entirely made up of Italian Carrara marble and pink sandstone that was brought from Rajasthan. There are about 234 pillars featuring intricate carvings, 20 quadrangle pinnacles, 9 beautiful domes, and 20000 statues of saints, devotees, and acharyas. The temple’s layout is based on Maharishi Vastu Architecture and thus is extremely well-planned. There is a 11 foot tall idol of Swaminarayan inside the central dome, surrounded by images of Gurus in different postures.

Every corner of the temple is a sight to behold, however, some of the most significant places of interest that should not be missed or skipped are: the central temple housing the deity of Swaminarayan, Hall of Values, Musical Fountain, Bharat Upvan, Theatre, and boat ride at Sanskruti Vihar.

In a nutshell, Delhi is a large city and there is a plethora of tourist attractions to explore. Visit the place on next vacation and make the vacation memorable. Additionally, if you have some leisure time, check out the holy city of Mathura. It is in close proximity to Delhi and has frequent Delhi to Mathura trains running between the two cities.
