The Bhopal Development Authority (BDA) will focus on the construction of affordable housing in the next financial year. The Chief Executive Officer of Bhopal Development Authority Neeraj Vashishtha said that the BDA will construct about 5,000 affordable housing units in the next financial year at an expense of about 200 Crore.

He said that these housing units will be sold at subsidised rates under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the CM Awas Yojana.

In January 2017, the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan announced at a public function that the MP govt. would provide houses to all poor. By 2018, the BDA plans to sell out all its property. It will ensure possession to 12,500 plot owners in prestigious Aero city near airport. The remaining 1,800 plots of the project will be developed in next phase.

However, BDA sources, said that more than 500 low-cost houses constructed by the agency under affordable housing project remained unsold after Chouhan announced his government would provide houses to all poor.
