CHB to provide two new schemes with 1,700 flats : A big offer
The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) is ready for two new self-financing housing schemes in sectors 51 and 54. An estimate of about 1,700 flats in various categories would be under construction and that too after several years.
It was decided on Thursday in which 3BHK (HIG), 2 BHK (MIG), 1 BHK (LIG) and one-room flats for economically weaker sections would be constructed. There are 160 flats that are already constructed in Sector 51 in which the flats under the new scheme would be similar in design to these flats.
A consulting architect is to be selected to design an energy-efficient and sustainable architecture. Since land is scarce in Chandigarh so focus would be given on optimal utilisation of the land. These would also have provisions for rainwater harvesting and utilisation of solar power.
B S Bhalla said that both the schemes would be announced soon. Bhalla said that there was a big demand for general housing in the city to cater to which the CHB has decided to float the schemes.
The CHB focus has been on construction of tenements under the rehabilitation scheme and general housing schemes have been delayed . The scheme for the UT employees that was floated is in tension.
In was decided that the allotment of specific flat units for 160 two-bedroom flats that are completed would be done on October 28 and the specific allotment and possession of the dwelling units shall be given to all applicants who have deposited the cost of the flat
The members decided that the commercial property that is lying vacant would be rented out for a maximum period of 3 years in which143 properties of the board that have found no takers which would be rented by way of open auction. More of the importance would be given to banks, government organisations, autonomous bodies and boards and corporations.
