Govt. to launch affordable housing for Himachal urban poor
The government has decided to provide housing for poor in Himachal. The government has approved the Rs. 19 crore 17 lakh project in the first phase under Rajiv Awas Yojana. Under the scheme, the government will provide 30 square meters houses for the poor in the city and Rs. 165 per set would be spent.
Centre will provide an assistance of Rs. 1.50 lakh while the state government will bear 15 percent. The project has been approved in a meeting at Delhi between Urban Development Department, the state and central authorities. In the first phase instead of Shimla, Baddi and Parwanoo, the housing will be developed for other urban poor.
The proposals were not sent to the government by these cities. Now 1077 houses will be constructed. Kitchen and bathroom with two rooms per person will be made. For further construction, the project will send to the state government and central government.
In 5 years, the government has decided to make Himachal slum free. Even people who live in slums in the state, the government will make concrete houses under Rajiv Awas Yojana. Urban Development Department Director Capt JM Pathania said last week there was a meeting about it in Delhi.
