On Friday 12 May 2017, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani launched the implementation of the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) in Gujarat.
This announcement was made at a function, where Chief Minister distributed the approval letters and booklet of model designs to over 14,000 homeless family-beneficiaries in rural areas of five districts, namely Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Anand, Aravalli and Kheda districts.
According to the reports, about 204,703 beneficiaries in the entire state and the main aim is to provide them affordable houses with 20 percent subsidy. In order to make a transparency with beneficiaries, the subsidy will be directly deposited in their bank account in installments. The first installment is of Rs.40,000.
The Chief Minister said that the government has committed to proved houses for homeless people without making any difference between BPL and APL families – after a long time. The state government plan is to provide ‘rotla, otla and makan’ to all. Under the scheme, the government is also providing an option to the beneficiaries where the beneficiaries can build their houses anywhere as per their quality of construction.
In the Gujarat Budget, the government has allocated Rs.1,372-crore for providing houses to the homeless under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin). Besides, the government has also changed the rules for land settlement fo the plots.
