MHADA Housing Scheme 2018 – The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority has come up with a new housing scheme (MHADA Housing Scheme 2018) for the homebuyers who thought their dream of owning a house in Mumbai or its nearby areas was going to remain just that a dream. Under this lottery scheme, the authority is offering about 7,300 housing units in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

Besides this, the lottery draw which is expected to start next month is said to be one of the biggest to be held in the last six to seven years.
Out of the total 7,300 houses offered under this scheme, around 4,000 houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
Under this scheme, of the total houses, about 2,000 houses are located at Khon near Kalyan, and Shirdhon near Panvel. And 3,300 houses have been constructed at Virar.
The MHADA Division Board’s Chief Officer Mr. Vijay Lahane said that the Authority is currently in the process of finalizing the software company for conducting the online lottery. After which the authority will be able to conduct the lottery in the middle of next month.
In the year 2011, the last MHADA lottery on such a large scale took place when about 5,000 houses were offered to the home seekers.
Under such types of lotteries, lakhs of buyers apply to get an affordable housing unit while only few thousands of houses are offered. The reason behind that is these houses are cheaper by at least 20 to 25 per cent compared to those sold by private developers.
For the Central Government’s ambitious housing scheme i.e. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, people belonging to economically weaker section (EWS) will be eligible. For such people, the state government will provide an additional subsidy of Rs 2.5 lakh for the purchase of these affordable houses.
