PM Awas Yojana Authority has No Land for First 10,000 Applicants
With the participation of State Government, the Centre Government is working on the most ambitious ‘PM Awas Yojana – Housing For All’ Scheme in the City. According to the reports, about 10,000 people have already applied for affordable housing under the scheme.
However, the authority is facing a big problem because the authority has no idea that where and on what area of land these houses are to be developed. Recently, The District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) has cleared that there is no plot for implementation of the scheme.
According to the officials, there is no planning of the scheme. However, the application submission process has been started on higher authorities orders. A large number of people gather outside the DUDA office the Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) premises. According to sources, con-men have also become active around the office and try to cheat the applicants of their money by misleading them.
As per the information, the officials are already looking for land to develop houses for poor under the scheme. However, the DUDA is running the Basic Services to the Urban Poor (BSUP) scheme in the district.
In this regard, a senior official said that we don’t know where these houses will be developed under the scheme. Besides this, the dimensions of the houses have not been communicated by the authorities. Actually, these houses will be constructed for economical weaker categories people. A detailed plan needs to be developed before any implementation can start.
According to the scheme, the government has targeted to develop affordable housing units by 2022 for EWS category families who are living in urban areas. However, in the first phase of the scheme, 100 cities have been selected in the country including Agra. The has promised to provide houses by the end of March 2017 for those people who don’t have their own home in the city. After this, the second phase will begin in April 2017 and continue till March 2019 followed by the third phase from April 2019 till 2022.
In order to provide affordable housing for urban poor, the Central government will provide an assistance of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.30 lakh per house under different components, including the redevelopment of slums. Low-interest housing loans will be available for selected applicants.
The project officer of DUDA Anamika Singh said that the application process has been started on the orders of higher authorities. For the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the land and permission for construction have to be determined by the state government.
